  • NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL WEEK 24

    NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL – WEEK 24 APRIL 12, 2021

    Welcome back!  Excited for spring and the few weeks we have left in this third quarter.  Please let me know if I can help your family and child succeed in any way at home.

    PARENT CONFERENCES:  We are scheduling parent conferences – please see your teacher to schedule yours.

    CLASSROOM NEEDS: Our classrooms could use snack: pretzels, crackers, goldfish, etc

    I.T.B.S. TESTING APRIL 19-22:

    Kindergarten through 6th grade will be conducting ITBS (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills) Mon-Thur April 19-22. 

    Tests may include:

    • Vocabulary, Phonics, Reading
    • Listening, Language
    • Math Concepts

    KINDERGARTEN TESTS WILL BE MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY – NO KINDERGARTEN THUR & FRI

    1ST-6TH GRADE TESTS WILL BE MONDAY-THURSDAY

    HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

    • Pack healthy lunches (limit sugar)
    • Give them lots of rest/sleep
    • Be on time – absences and tardies will lead to tests that cannot be made up
    • Be quiet in the hallway and office area
    • Watch for ‘TESTING’ signs on the classroom doors

    Results will be available within a few weeks.  Thank you for helping our kids succeed during this time!

    Mr. Young is hoping to create a farm for kids to visit one day and explore fruit trees, animals, and pumpkins...he’d like to plant a pumpkin field this spring to get that part of the farm going...would anyone want to donate a packet of pumpkin seeds to help the project?

    If so, you are welcome to bring them to school and we will make sure the planting begins!!

    HOW: Students complete the 2021 Reading Log by March 26 with a total of 10 hours reading.  Students who submit a completed reading log by March 26 will then receive one free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park.  Late reading logs will not be accepted past March 31.

    PLASTIC EGG AND CANDY DONATIONS NEEDED – We are looking for donations of plastic eggs and candy for our upcoming Easter Egg hunts – thank you!

    Registration for current CCA students/families begins Monday for the Fall 2021/2022 school year - space is extremely limited so returning your form and $100 deposit is critical to securing your spot - THIS IS FOR 2 YR OLD to 5TH GRADE - please return these items asap so we can reserve your spot - delaying returning the form/deposit may lead to forfeiture of your spot for the fall term - current CCA families have access to register before it is open to the public - based on the high demand, please return your form SOON!!  Thank you! Mrs. Young and the CCA Staff

    ($100 deposit is then put towards your registration fee if K-5th or Sept tuition/daycare if Preschool/Pre-K)

    TREATS: Kids can bring healthy treat choices for friends to enjoy at snack; we have several students who need gluten-free/allergy-free so fruit and veggies are a great choice!

    VALENTINE STORE: A store has been set up for parents to send their child a special valentine treat.  Stop by the store, shop for your items, and they will be labeled, bagged, and delivered on Feb 12 to your child on party day.  All proceeds from the store go to purchase classroom learning tools.

    THIS WEEK: January 11-12 our school will be engaging in our five-year accreditation review process.  This is a chance for the Dept of Education to review our school standards and academic outcomes.  The review process occurs every five years and includes our staff, parents, and students.  Most of the process will take place on Monday, January 11 and will be done remotely through Zoom meetings with staff.  Your child’s academic schedule may be adjusted slightly that day to allow for our elementary staff – who are on the accreditation committee – to participate in these Zoom meetings with the review team.  The results of the review team will be shared with the CCA community when they are completed.  Thank you for your help in this process!

    DEC 11 - CHRISTMAS PROGRAM RECORDING - We will record all the students performing their songs Friday Dec 11 from 9-11am securely and privately at the school; we will then present the videos for you on the private Facebook group page Dec 12; kids/students can wear their nice Christmas clothes and then change afterwards; school will be held as usual during individual class recording; students not being videotaped in the program need to be at school by 9am for a regular school day

    FUNDRAISER RESULTS- Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fall fundraiser.  You all did amazing!  Student prizes were placed in cubbies/lockers last week.  Butter braids should be here before Christmas break.

    DEC 5 – “I APPRECIATE YOU A LATTE” HOT BEVERAGE EXCHANGE: Calling all women of CCA and CCA Ministries!  Bring a dozen of your favorite k-cups, teas, hot chocolates, or ciders and we can swap flavors and fellowship at the same time!  You are welcome to bring a dessert to share if you want – hope to see you there!

    • Parents and primary caregivers are invited to attend from 11-11:30am; for the health and care of our families, we are asking the elderly or high-risk individuals to please stay home to protect their health
    • Temperatures will be taken at the door for ALL parents and primary caregivers entering the building from 11-11:30am; those with temps above the acceptable limit will be asked to return home
    • Classroom sanitize procedures will take place every 30 minutes instead of our traditional 60 minutes
    • One person will be serving food with gloves in each classroom to reduce sharing serving utensils
    • Parents and primary caregivers are asked to stay in their child’s classroom and conclude the feast at 11:30am
    • Parents may take their children at the conclusion of the feast, but this is not a requirement

    CHRISTMAS PROGRAM DETAILS

    • We will not be having a live Christmas program this year due to local Covid requirements
    • We will record the students performing their songs Friday Dec 11 from 9-10am securely and privately at the school
    • We will then present the videos for you on the private Facebook group page Dec 12
    • Kids/Students can wear their nice Christmas clothes and then change afterwards; school will resume as usual 10am-3pm
    • Students not being videotaped in the program need to be at school by 10am for a regular school day
    • A permission slip will be given to you at parent conferences where you can give confirm your child’s participation or not on Dec 11
