  • The Grenier Gazette Week 29

    Hello 3rd grade families,

We have another short week ahead. With all that we have going on we will not have a Reading Log due this week. Students are still encouraged to read daily! :) We will however finish up our spelling List 26 that we introduced last week. We will have our normal two options of Spelling homework due on **Wednesday** along with our only test. We have been talking about and practicing these words since last week. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding what is due for homework this week.

Sierra Mines permission slip and $6/person is due tomorrow, Monday, May 20th. I have received some slips without money so please remember to bring whatever you still need to turn in tomorrow! Mrs. Helmuth is trying to arrange all of the students into cars to get us all there and back, so it is very important we have everything we need! The trip is 9:00-2:30 on Thursday, May 23rd.

Conferences went really well! Thank you to those of you who I got the opportunity to meet with. To those of you who I did not have a conference with, please return the signed Report Card envelopes to me! Your student will be receiving their Silverwood ticket on Monday, if they have not already.

    Thank you!

    Mrs. Grenier

    Homework:

Homework is not assigned over the weekend, but any work that is missed or not finished in class will be considered homework to turn in the following day.

If 100% is earned on the pretest on Thursday, they will not have to take the Friday Spelling test. For their spelling homework each week they will need to choose 2 of the following options to complete and turn in first thing Friday.

-Write each word in a sentence.

-Write each word and a word that it rhymes with.

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 25

    Hello 3rd Grade families,

Welcome to Week 25! Our Easter egg hunt is on Friday at 10:15. Please send your student with their own bucket or basket to collect their eggs in. We will continue our normal school day following the hunt. We will be preparing for our ITBS testing that starts next week. Please let me know if your student will be absent on any of the days next week (22-25). There is no school April 26th following testing. We have normal Reading homework this week, please make sure to sign your student’s Reading Log before they turn it in on Friday. Spelling homework will be modified, because we have a review list. I will be asking for just ONE option of homework and we will only take one test this week, on Friday.

I made a big mistake last week in posting a Math assignment that was supposed to be worth 5 points. It was posted as being worth 30 points and so it showed most students with a 5/30. That has been corrected-- I am sorry for the mishap!

I am also still working on Book Report grades. I want to finish them all before posting. Those will be posted no later than Tuesday 4/16. Thank you for your patience.

As we discuss testing starting next week, I thought it would be appropriate to have our memory verse be from Philippians 4:6. We will be discussing worry and anxiety. God is ready to take all of our worries if we present them to him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

    Thank you,

    Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 24

    Hello 3rd Grade families,

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope everyone enjoyed the time off. Book Report grades will be posted this week and a rubric will be sent home. The presentations and projects were fantastic and completely blew me away! I was very proud of the whole class. We will dive back in this week with normal Spelling and Reading homework, due on Friday. We are still in need of plastic Easter eggs and wrapped candy for our annual Easter egg hunt coming up this month. If you are able to send any with your child that would be greatly appreciated! We have started doing memory verses in class as part of our studying the Bible. We do one per week and we will work on it in class, but practice on the verse at home is suggested. If your child looks up the verse at home and reads it/practices it from the Bible, they can record that time on their Reading log for that day. They will be given a chance to recite the verse on Fridays each week for points and for a piece of candy. I look forward to seeing everyone and hearing about what the students did over break!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 23

    Hello 3rd grade families,

As we enter our final week before Spring Break we have a lot to wrap up. We are NOT going to have a reading log due this week because we will be finishing up and presenting Book Report projects. I would like to give the students all the time they can to focus on that rather than filling out the log. Again, projects and written summaries (3 pages of questions) are due Thursday March 21st. We will be presenting on Thursday and Friday to the class. If you know your student is going to be gone one or both of those days please let me know ASAP. If there are any questions about the Book Report please feel free to contact me by phone or email at any time. We will still have spelling words and spelling homework this week to assure practice before the test. They will have time to get at least some done in class this week.

We have started in a new thing in our Bible studies and that is memorizing scripture. I introduced their first memory verse last Thursday. Typically it will be a Monday to Friday assignment. We introduce and discuss the verse on Mondays and they will need to recite them independently on Fridays. We will work on the verse a couple times throughout the week but they will also bring it home to practice if needed. We had some extra time on the first one and we will recite them on Friday the 22nd. They will get classroom money for reciting it independently and will get graded based on effort.

Verse due 3/22: "Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Sledding is done for the season. Sleds should have gone home and should not be brought back to school. However, all 5 things need to still be worn while we have snow and slush on the playground. In order for kids to go outside please keep bringing those!

Easter eggs for the annual Easter egg hunt are starting to be stuffed and we are asking that kids bring in plastic Easter eggs for donation. You can bring them to our classroom or to Mrs. Young.

    Thank you,
    Mrs. Grenier

    Hello 3rd Grade Families,
As we enter into this week please make sure your student is finishing up their Book Report book and thinking about what kind of project they want to complete. The written summary for the project is simply the questionnaire that was sent home (3 pages). This needs to be filled out completely and neatly. The projects are due March 21st and we will be presenting both on the 21st and 22nd. Please, let me know if your student will be absent on either of those days. We will have a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 15th. This will simply entail doing some fun St. Patrick’s Day themed activities and games at the end of the day. No need to bring anything, but the students are welcome to wear green for fun! Homework is as usual this week. Have a great week!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Grenier

    Hello 3rd Grade families,

Some of you may have heard from your students, I will be out of town for a friend’s wedding Feb. 6th-12th. Mrs. Duke and Mrs. Mueller will be so graciously covering my class. If you have any questions or concerns while I am gone, please contact Mrs. Young.

Due to my absences this week we will not have regular Spelling. No Spelling homework will be due, however, the words will be practiced in class. There will not be a normal Spelling test. The following week normal spelling practices will resume. I will be back in class Wednesday, Feb. 13th. If you have any questions for me before I leave this week, feel free to contact me!

We had a successful classroom store last Friday! The kids got to spend their hard earned cash. They will continue to be able to earn more money with nice, on-task behavior, completing homework on time, and doing their classroom jobs responsibly. If your student was absent on Friday they will have a chance to access the store this week.

I have gotten almost all the parent signatures back for Book Report information- so thank you for that! If you haven’t gotten that into me yet, please do! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the Book Report assignment.

As we wrap up our 2nd quarter we will be wrapping up our History unit and start to focus in on Science for the rest of the year. There are some exciting things coming with the new Science curriculum and books!

    Homework:

Homework is not assigned over the weekend, but any work that is missed or not finished in class will be considered homework to turn in the following day.

-Your student will be coming home with a Reading Log that needs to be filled out each day for ten minutes of reading. They need to turn it in first thing Friday morning with a parent/guardian signature.

-A new Spelling word list will be given at the start of each week. We will have a pretest each Thursday and a test each Friday. If 100% is earned on the pretest on Thursday, they will not have to take the Friday Spelling test. They can turn Spelling homework in early, and it is a great idea to do the homework before the pretest on Thursday for that extra practice- especially for the vocabulary words and definitions.

For their spelling homework each week they will need to choose 2 of the following options to complete and turn in first thing Friday.

    1. Write each word in a sentence.

    2. Write each word and a word that it rhymes with.

    3. Write each word three times using three different colors.

    4. Write each word and draw a picture of that word.

    5. Write each word once in all capital letters.

    6. Write each word once in cursive

    7. Complete another spelling option assigned in class and considered for homework credit.

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 13

    Hello 3rd Grade families,

I don't know why the internet hates me... I thought my newsletter was all set... but it disappeared. I am so sorry for the inconvenience and late start on this information.

Due to the technological fail-- I am cancelling spelling for this week. We will go over the words and do some spelling activities in class. No Spelling homework is due this week and there will be no Spelling Test on Friday. Merry Christmas! :)

Welcome to our last week before Christmas Break! We will have a lot going on this week! Starting Monday, students who earned enough group points are welcome to bring decorations to decorate their desks for Christmas. Suggestions for this would be gift wrapping supplies or paper decorations. If any students did not earn this yet, they still have a chance to as the week goes on. Wednesday we will gather as an entire school to celebrate how well the fundraiser went this fall! The girls chose to decorate Mrs. B, Mrs. Young, and me as Christmas cookies! It will be a fun event to get everyone into the Christmas spirit!

Friday the 14th is our Christmas party and our final day before Christmas Break. We will have normal schedule in the morning and begin our party after lunch. Lunch will not be provided, students still need to pack their normal home lunch. I will have some treats for the afternoon. If parents would like to bring treats for the class, they are more than welcome- nothing is expected! If you would like to bring something shoot me an email so I can have an idea of what is coming in. Students are welcome to wear pajamas all day- however are still expected to have and wear all 5 things for outside recess. They are also welcome to bring toys and/or board games for the afternoon party.

Saturday the 15th is our Christmas Program scheduled to start at 10:30am at The Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene. Please let me know if your child cannot be there. We have been practicing hard for this event! There is no specific dress code- I have suggested dressing nice and festive if possible.

We will have normal homework due this week, Friday the 14th. Please make sure that you are signing your student’s Reading Log, verifying that they have read each day. This should be a fun week and I would hate to have any kids miss out on the Friday festivities because they have not turned homework in!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 12

    Hello families!

We had an awesome time on the Eagle Cruise last Friday! If your student missed it, there is always next year! The kids did a good job being safe and respectful and seemed to have a great time! Due to such good behavior on the field trip, there will be no Reading Log homework due this week, Friday, Dec. 7th. I encourage kids to still be reading throughout the week when they get a chance, but they will not have to fill out a log! Spelling Homework will be normal. Thank you parents for preparing your kids properly for the field trip! I want to give an extra thanks to the parents who were able to join us and drive other students making it possible for everyone to go!

This week we will have a Language Test on Tuesday and a Math Quiz on Thursday. I will be taking an oral score on multiplication facts for 2's, 3's, and 4's.

We are going to be working hard on our Christmas Program song as a class each day. If you have a pretty good idea of whether or not your student will be attending the Christmas Program on Saturday, December 15th at 10:30am, please shoot me a quick email or text letting me know either way! I can then better plan our specific roles in the program. If you don't know until last minute- that is ok! Still come! :)

    Thank you!

All sleds need their name in permanent marker in BIG LETTERS.

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 9

    Dear 3rd grade families,

We are rocking and rolling our way into the last week of the quarter! Our class has been working hard. The class will be excited to hear, we will have our second classroom store on Friday! This is where they will have a chance to use their money to buy things. They have been earning money with hard work, respectful listening, and doing their classroom jobs. Ask your student how much money they have saved!

This week we have a Language Test on Monday (we did lots of review this past Friday) and a Math Quiz on Wednesday. On Thursday we will have our first History test. They did a great job doing a collective drawing project according to what we have read last week. If you didn’t see already, you can find pictures of that on our 3rd grade Facebook page!

We are working more on looking up verses in the Bible and have started to work on memorizing Philippians 2:3-5. Each student has it written down and we recite it as a class. We have discussed a little what the verse means to us and will work little by little to get it memorized completely. If you can this week encourage them to find it for you in the Bible and read it to you. We have had some great discussion about the meaning of humility and how we should treat others. If your student does not have a Bible to keep at school with him/her please have them bring one or let me know if you are having trouble getting them one! They are responsible for specific assignments directly from the Bible and sometimes it is difficult to share.

We have the same assignment for Reading and Spelling every week and it is outlined further down on this newsletter. Please be practicing multiplication facts at home when you can, your student should be comfortable with most of the 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s tables up to 12. They all have their own set of flashcards at school now and as they master them they will take them home to keep for review.

I have a sign-up sheet for November Conferences outside my classroom door. The dates we will have those conferences are Thursday November 15th 7:00am-4:00pm and Friday November 16th 7:00am-3:00pm. I will try my best to work you into a spot that fits for you and arrange where needed if you also have siblings attending CCA. Please email me if you have specific requests and I will let you know what I can do.

I also now have a sign-up sheet for our wonderful Thanksgiving Feast we will have at school on Wednesday November 14. If you are able to participate and bring something, great! Please let me know what you would like to bring. We hope to have parents join us for the feast!

    My email is Ckgrenier@gmail.com

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 8

    Dear 3rd grade families,

We are wrapping up the first quarter over the next couple weeks! As we head into 2nd quarter students will begin to have more responsibilities. I encourage you to make sure your student has some good books at home that make them excited to read! Sometimes it can feel like a drag but there are plenty of fun books to get them interested and wanting to read! I have a selection in my classroom library and have encouraged them to check out a book with me to keep at home. They also have one checked out to keep in their desk (or are welcome to bring one from home to keep in their desk). We do a lot more silent reading in here than they are use to! So far they are doing a great job. This week we will have a Math Test on Tuesday and a Language Quiz on Wednesday.

We have the same assignment for Reading and Spelling every week and it is outlined further down on this newsletter. Please be practicing multiplication facts at home when you can, your student should be comfortable with most of the 2’s and 3’s tables up to 12. • The Grenier Gazette Week 7

    Dear 3rd grade families,

We had a great time at Carver Farms for the field trip last Friday! I hope you enjoyed seeing all of the treasures your student brought home with them! Thank you to all of the parents who came out to join us, the kids really enjoyed having you there. I took a few pictures of the kids picking their produce and going through the corn maze but I have had trouble uploading them to Facebook. Stay tuned- hopefully I can get those up soon! This week we have a Language Test on Tuesday and a Math Quiz on Wednesday. We have a new seating arrangements and the Quiet Ninjas are in the lead with group points. I suppose they picked a good group name!

We had really good effort on homework last week! Hoping to see that again this coming week. We have the same assignment for Reading and Spelling every week and it is outlined further down on this newsletter. Please be practicing multiplication facts at home when you can, your student should be comfortable with most of the 2’s and 3’s tables up to 12. They can exchange those for a prize. I hope you had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather!

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 5

    The Grenier gazette

    Dear 3rd grade families,

Our class has been working hard and getting into a good routine. The “Unidogs” are our leaders in classroom points! They earn points when their entire group (row) is listening respectfully and moving through transitions quietly and quickly. Ask your student which group they are in, what funny name they picked and how they are doing on points! The first group to reach 500 points will get a celebration with just their group and Mrs. Grenier!

This week we will have a Language Test on Tuesday and Math Quiz on Wednesday. We will do our normal spelling routine- Pretest on Thursday and Test on Friday. Take a look at the bottom of the letter for our new words this week. Please read homework instructions carefully! The Reading Log and Spelling homework directions are the same each week unless otherwise stated. We will be diving a little more into Science this week with a couple hands on activities and experiments!

Have a great week and please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at

    Ckgrenier@gmail.com

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 4

    Hello 3rd Grade families!

Last Friday we had our first classroom store! The students had a chance to buy things with the money that they have earned by doing their homework, doing their classroom jobs, being on task, or great participation in class! They worked hard last week and are now in groups working together to earn points with great participation and good listening ears!

We will be taking our Spelling test from last week on Monday due to the fact that I didn’t get their pretests back to them until Friday. This was a challenging list with some confusing words. Please make sure they are practicing at home! There has still been a little confusion with Spelling homework. Please read the assignment below to make sure your student is turning in completed homework. The reading logs need a parent/guardian signature each week to verify time read! “Tuition Options” forms went home last week with each student. Please make sure, if you haven’t already, to get those filled out and turned in!

This week we will be diving a little more into History and Science with some fun activities! We will also have a Language Quiz on Tuesday and our first Math Test on Wednesday. Please feel free to email me with any questions!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Grenier

    5. Write each word in all capital letters.

    6. Complete another spelling option assigned in class and considered for homework credit.

    7. Any idea created by student and approved by Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 3

    Hello 3rd Grade families!

Last week went well! We had our first Language quiz and the kids did great! A couple ladies from the Coeur d'Alene Elks Club came by and passed out a set of dictionaries. Each student got their very own to write their name in and keep. Some wanted to bring them home and show families, but I did ask them to bring them back and keep them at school! We will use them for help with spelling big words and to practice looking up definitions! They did well listening and came up with some good questions for the ladies who brought the dictionaries in. The students each made a thank you card ahead of time, so we got to give them our thank yous before they left. Ask your student to show you the longest word in the English language!

This week we have PICTURE DAY on Tuesday the 18th! I sent order forms home last week for anyone who wants to order prints. We will take our first Language Test on Tuesday and Wednesday we will take our first Math quiz. We will do our Spelling pretest on Thursday and test on Friday. If they receive 100% Thursday they will not need to take the test on Friday. If you have any questions about anything please feel free to email me at Ckgrenier@gmail.com.

    Best,
    Mrs. Grenier

  • The Grenier Gazette Week 2

    Dear 3rd grade families,

I had a great time getting to know your kids this week! This is a great group! They did well getting through a lot of introductory things as we figure out how our classroom will work this year. It was really neat watching them present their brown bags projects. There was a lot of creativity and effort that went into those and it was fun getting to know a little more about each student. If your student has not presented one- there is still time to do it! This week we will be practicing Spelling a little more during class time, but the tests last Thursday and Friday went really well. The students who had classroom jobs this week did a great job. They showed responsibility and took initiative in order to earn their salary. I am looking forward to diving into Week 2 with each of them. We have new spelling words to practice and a new reading log to complete for the week. Please email me with any questions you may have regarding the first week or anything I need to know about your student. ckgrenier@gmail.com

    Love, Mrs. Grenier
