    Week of May 20-24, 2019

    Greetings, Parents and Students,

I hope you all have had a good and restful weekend!  I enjoyed meeting with all of you parents--it is so refreshing to touch base with one another.

We have another short week ahead.  I will be testing the kids on THURSDAY instead of Friday.  Be sure to give your child extra spelling practice at home since we have less time this week in class!  I will be giving out a practice test on WEDNESDAY instead of Thursday.

Just a friendly reminder: we have NO SCHOOL this upcoming Friday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend.  I hope you are able to enjoy some extra relaxation time!

Here are the spelling words of the week:

    hitting

    hugged

    getting

    pinned

    were

The kids are doing great, despite the difficult quarter we are transitioning into.  Continue to provide encouragement and praise for all their hard work--it is so crucial for their motivation to finish out the school year strong!  I am so proud of each and every one of them.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

    God bless,

    Mrs. Brawley

    Week of November 5-9, 2018

    Greetings, Parents and Students,

Happy November!  I hope you all have had a blessed weekend.  The fundraiser has officially ended, thank you for all participating and raising the money!

This week will look a lot like last week.  Homework will be the same as usual: they will go home with their new spelling list and will write each word down.  If your child has not gotten homework back to me from last week, they can definitely bring that to me this coming week so that they can receive credit.

Testing will be the same as usual.  On Friday, we will test in phonics, math, and spelling, with a practice spelling test on Thursday.  On Tuesday, we will test in cursive.  Testing has been going so well!  Thank you, parents, for investing time and energy into your child.  They are all so smart!

Here is our new spelling list for the week:

    shy     this

    she     that

    shade     then

    sheep     with

    brush     of

    fresh     do

Also, parent/teacher conferences are coming up!  Make sure you pick a time slot for us to talk. :)  I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    God bless,

    Mrs. Brawley

    Week of October 29 - November 2

    Greetings Parents and Students,

The fundraiser has officially ended!  We will get to see if boys or girls win… and then they will determine which three teachers to decorate as Christmas cookies!!!  So exciting!

Testing went well this last Friday.  Spelling, as you all should know, resulted in nothing but 100%’s--every student in my class got an A+!!!  I am so proud of their hard work, and I am so grateful to you as their parents for helping them study and giving them that extra push.  Thank you!!!

On Monday, they will begin their new list of spelling words and their homework.  I had a “silly Mrs. B!” moment last week and completely forgot to hand out the homework until Tuesday...my apologies about that!  I’ve been trying to incorporate games into practicing the spelling lists, and the kiddos seem to really respond to that well.  Also, we’ve been able to use the miniature whiteboards and been having some contest fun between lego teams!

The class has been learning Luke 2 to recite for the Christmas Program this December.  So far, they have learned verses 1-3, and are doing a great job at it.  Please make sure they are even practicing at home--memorizing Bible verses can be tough!  We have also been plugging away at their Bible Story Scrapbooks--we created pictures of God’s creation last week!

Here are a few important things to note:

SNOW CLOTHES: Hate to say it but it’s time to get those snow clothes packed and ready!!  When snow is on the ground, kids need ALL FIVE THINGS to go outside.  All five things means: winter coat that zips, hood/hat, snow pants, snow boots, gloves; kids who do not bring their snow things will have to sit in the preschool during recess (which is not is much fun as playing outside).  Kids can also prepare to bring sleds for recess.  All sleds need their name in permanent marker in BIG LETTERS.

PLEASE NOTE CALENDAR DATE CHANGE: The Christmas Program date has been changed to Dec 15 because of facility availability.  Please mark the date change in your calendar.  Times to be announced later...

Testing will be the same as usual.  Phonics, math, and spelling tests will be on Friday, and a cursive test will be on Tuesday, with a practice spelling test on Thursday.

Hope you all are having a blessed and relaxed weekend so far.

    God bless,

    Mrs. Brawley

  • 1st Grade Newsletter--Week 9

    Week of October 22-26, 2018

    Greetings Parents and Students,

Hope you all have had a good and restful weekend.  Here are the things to be looking forward to for this week:

We are still selling items for the fundraiser!  Make sure you or your child is still trying to sell until the end of this next week.  We have one more school week for the fundraiser--who will sell more?  Boys or girls?  Winners get to choose three teachers to decorate as Christmas cookies!!!

We are starting Spelling List 6 on Monday!  Which means homework will be passed out to get done that night.

Note: I still have students who have not turned in List 5 homework--make sure that gets to me. :)

Testing: Many students were gone on Friday due to the Pumpkin Field Trip, so many of them did not get to complete all their tests.  I will set aside time on Monday and Tuesday to get everyone caught up.

We will be testing in Phonics, Spelling, and Math on Friday.  We will be testing in Cursive on Tuesday.

We also did not get to do our next Bible Story Scrapbook page--again, I will try to set aside time on Monday to get caught up on that.  Our next page for next Friday will be about the Garden of Eden--all of the students are such great artists!

Here is the new spelling list for Monday:

    cuff            will

    puff        well

    stuff        bell

    sniff        doll

    cross        you

    bless        of

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at brawley.abigail@gmail.com.  Hope you have a blessed rest of your weekend.

    God Bless,

    Mrs. Brawley

    CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:

This week for homework will be the same as usual--I will hand out the homework for List 5, they will write the words for me at home, and then bring it back to me the next day.  Other than that, there should be no other homework for the week.

Testing will be the same this coming Friday--we will test in phonics, spelling, math, and on TUESDAY there will be a cursive test.  Cursive is going really well… the students are starting to enjoy it!  We are starting to connect letters now rather than just learning and writing individual letters.

For Bible, we started our Bible Story Scrapbooks by creating our cover pages of the books.  This Friday we will be starting our first official scrapbook picture--it will be about God creating the world!  I am having the kiddos keep their scrapbooks in my classroom over the weekends because it prevents anyone from losing one, and it would be a bummer to have to start all over.

Here is the new spelling list for the week:

    day        clay

    play        way

    pray        stray

    gray        hay

    stay        to

    spray        you

The spelling test went so much better this last week!  I have decided to tutor any student that is struggling more than usual a couple times a week.  Some of them just need that extra motivation!

Hope you all have had a good break from school.  Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

    God bless,

    Mrs. Brawley

  • Off-Week (Oct 8-12)

    NO SCHOOL - I REPEAT - NO SCHOOL :)

We have an off week Oct 8-12.  There is no school.

Enjoy the break!  See you back Oct 15.

  • First Grade Newsletter--Week 5

    Week of October 1-5, 2018

    Greetings, First Grade Families!

I hope you all have had a great weekend.  This week is going to be packed full of learning!

The students will receive their usual Monday spelling homework.  There was some homework that did not get back to me last week for List 3, so be sure to have your kiddos remember to bring it in this week so that I can put in their grade!

We will be starting List 4 for spelling this coming week.  Here are the words so that you can practice with your child:

    back      brick

    bake      clock

    lick         shake

    like         broke

    snack     come

    snake     to

The spelling lists have been getting progressively more difficult.  Make sure your child is getting practice even at home, when he or she is not in the classroom… it will definitely pay off on test day!

This week in Bible, we will be starting on our Bible Story Scrapbooks.  Each student will create a picture for each story that we have learned so far over the next few weeks and we will create books out of those pictures,  until they are full scrapbooks.  We are looking forward to creating more wonderful works of art!  I have some talented students!

Friday, as always, is test day.  We will be testing in phonics, spelling (List 4), and math.

Note: Cursive Test 2 is on Tuesday.  The students will be taking the test out of their cursive books that they keep at school in their desks.  They must trace the letters and words provided to them, and then try each one on their own.  Cursive has been quite successful this year, many of the students are enjoying the challenge!

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at brawley.abigail@gmail.com.

    God bless,

    September 16, 2018

    Greetings, parents and students!

I just want to take a moment and say that we had our first day of testing this last Friday--and your kiddos did amazing!  Almost all A’s, I am so pleased and proud of them all.  We had tests in phonics, spelling, and math.  Well done, students!!

Tomorrow is Monday, which means that each student will receive spelling homework for List 2.  We are starting our new list tomorrow!  We will be testing on List 2 this coming Friday.  We will also be testing in phonics and math again.  I want to take another moment and thank all of you, parents, for investing so much time and energy into studying with your child--it really made a difference on test day!  Also, if you have not signed an Emergency Contact form or permission slip yet for your child, check their homework folders--they should have one.  If they do not have one, or have questions about these forms, please ask Mrs. Young (principal) about it.

This last week in Bible we began reading from the Bible storybook--we read about Creation, followed by the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.  We have also been going over the Gospel colors everyday, and even made Gospel color bracelets on Friday Art Day!  It was a lot of fun!  I will be continuing the Bible storybook this week and we will be reading about Noah’s Ark, and will hopefully have a fun animal art project this next Friday.

Again, if you have any questions, feel free to email me at brawley.abigail@gmail.com.

    God bless,

  • 1st Grade Newsletter - Week 2

    September 8th, 2018

    Good evening, everyone!

I hope you all have had a great weekend so far.  I just wanted to state that the first week of school went wonderfully.  The kids did amazing, and seem to be enjoying getting back into "school-mode."  Thank you, parents, for all that you do and for helping your child through this transition into the new school year!

I COMPLETELY apologize for my little mistake in the last newsletter.  I had originally stated that my students would be taking a spelling test this last Friday, the 7th.  I was wrong about that, and I'm so sorry for the confusion!  With that note, they WILL be testing this next Friday, the 14th.  They will be testing in phonics, spelling, (with a practice spelling test on Thursday) and math.  So, they will be receiving three tests that day... we will be reviewing everything this week so that it is fresh on their minds on test day!

Last week in Bible, we went over those questions that I had previously listed out in the last newsletter, and they completely enjoyed our discussions on those questions.  This week, I am going to begin reading to them from a children's Bible storybook, beginning with the Creation Story.  I am so excited to dig a little deeper into the Bible with them this week, and I think that they are too!

One last note... this Monday, I will be sending every student home with a sheet of lined paper, and their homework assignment will be to write out spelling List 1 two times on that sheet of paper.  Make sure it gets back to me on Tuesday so that I can grade it! (If they forget it at home, please don't worry!  I just need it by the end of the week when I put grades into the gradebook.)

God bless, and I will see you all on Monday!

    Mrs. Brawley

  • 1st Grade Newsletter - Week 1

    September 4th-7th

Hello, 1st grade students and parents!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  I am looking forward to working with and getting to know all of you.  In 1st grade we will be learning a variety of subjects: phonics, math, spelling, reading and writing, science, history, and of course, Bible, with an art project falling on every Friday.  In Bible, I will be reading from a children’s Bible storybook, beginning with creation.  However, for the first week of school, I will begin Bible by asking questions to see where the students are at, followed by a lesson on the Gospel colors.  These questions are located at the end of this newsletter.  Here are some things below to note before we begin the school year.

    Homework

    - Homework is very limited in this class.  Anything that your child does not finish in class will either be required to stay in during a recess time to finish the assignment, or be required to take it home to finish.

    - Every Monday, your child will receive a page of spelling homework to take home that night, so that they obtain extra practice on the spelling list.  Make sure it is returned to me the next morning so that I can grade them!

    Classroom Rules

I have this set of classic rules to set a good foundation and atmosphere for the classroom.  The theme this year is Legos, so let’s make sure we have the building blocks to a successful year!

    - Listen while others are speaking (especially the teacher!)

    - Hands and feet to ourselves

    - Be respectful, towards others and ourselves

    - Do your best!

    Tests

Every Friday, we will be testing on phonics, reading and writing, spelling, and math.  For spelling, the students will receive a practice test on Thursday, and then they will receive the real test on Friday.  However, if a student earns a 100% on the practice test, then he/she will not be required to take the actual test on Friday. The only test they will have on Friday the 7th (first Friday of the school year) will be their spelling test for List 1. (List 1 will be located in their Monday night homework)

    Questions to Begin Bible

    1. Who is God? (Jesus?)

    2. What is the Bible? - Learn books of the Bible

If you have any questions about anything I’ve written about, or anything about the class, feel free to call, text, or email me!

    God bless,
