April 6, 2020 [4:21pm] – Today, the Idaho State Board of Education announced intention for Idaho public and charter schools to remain on “soft closure” through the remainder of the school-year. In light of this announcement, we wanted to clarify a few points SPECIFIC to CornerStone Christian Academy, and our plans for the rest of our school year.
1.We plan to return back to classes soon: Yes, as soon as our Federal, State, and/or Local authorities lift mandates that would allow us to resume normal on-site classes, we will return to normal operations for the school. Again, we plan to return as soon as possible.
2.CCA does not fall under the issuing authority of the Idaho State Board of Education: In regards to public or charter school mandates such as this one concerning school closure for the rest of the year, we are not under their authority. We have our own Board of Directors who has oversight in this aspect. Our accreditation is provided under very strict guidelines established by the Idaho State Board of Education, but we are not under their authority (or system) per say.
3.We have set a new calendar for the remainder of our year-round school schedule: The revised calendar simply restored four-days of regular classes that were missed due to our early start of Spring Break. This revised calendar schedule also has one-week that we have reserved for a “break” down the road. In other words, the new schedule has us “in-school” (5)-five more days than required. So to afford flexibility, we will take these days between now and the end of the school-year.
4.Yes, your time as homeschool teachers will come to an end: Well, unless you decide to make this a more permanent blessing, experiment, epic adventure, trial and/or tribulation, we can’t wait to have our kids back! So again, as soon as our proper authorities lift certain restrictions, we’ll be ready (and willing).
5.Are you considering adjustments in tuitions since we are not using full services? Yes, we have many variables still unknown before we can make our intentions work. As you know, we are supporting (financially) our teachers during this time. They are working very hard to keep a continuity in your student’s educational progress. If our school receives any federal aid (via SBA), we will make adjustments accordingly to help ease financial burdens on us all.
6.What can I do if I am experiencing financial hardship now? [THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR ANYTIME YOU ARE EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP] – Please let us know and we will do whatever we reasonably can to help. This may include deferments, suspensions, and/or grants. Again, please let us know so we can help.
A majority of our families have been able to continue meeting financial obligations, including those to our school. Our staff have adapted to lesser hours and we doing our best to keep everyone afloat during this time. I’m proud of the response of our entire CCA family. From the teachers’ creative efforts, to the incredible workstations and ideas implementing distance learning at home, from those donating needed supplies, and the many who hold us in prayer, the unified Body of Christ is working well in our small little community.
Please continue to stay informed and stay as healthy as possible. Let us know if you have any questions as we continue this path forward.
