Welcome back to school, friends and families of Cornerstone Christian Academy! My name is Miss Shanklin, and I am so excited to teach and learn from your 5th grade students for the 2017-2018 academic year.
I graduated in 2012 from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, obtaining certifications to teach K-8 in both Idaho and Montana. In the fall of that year, I hired on with an elementary school in Libby, Montana, and taught 1st and 2nd grade. Not feeling like the selected curriculum and I were the ideal fit, I took a step back from teaching for a few years and pursued a career in criminal justice (at the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office and most recently the Coeur d'Alene Police Department). I wholeheartedly support our local law enforcement agencies, knowing how dearly our own Father loves and protects us from "the bad guys" and gave us laws intended to keep us physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe.
I was raised in a godly home with five siblings and parents who diligently instructed all six of us in the ways of the Lord and holy living. On September 22, 1999, I gave my young heart to the Lord and asked Him to be my Savior. Through the years (and many ups and downs in my Christian walk), His unfailing love has always amazed me. How can a perfect God like Him keep being merciful to me? Even when it doesn't make any sense to me, when I expect Him to finally turn His face from me and give up on me, He calls me lovingly by name and beckons me to return to His open arms. How good He is!! I cling to His promises (hence my email address, hint hint!) and they always bring so much encouragement, especially Romans 8:28 that promises that our Father will "...work all things together for the GOOD of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." I've seen it true countless times in my life, both in the joy and the pain. It is my sincere hope that these children who have been entrusted to me will see Jesus in my life and that through my own words and actions, they might be filled with the desire to nurture their own unique relationships with Him.
In my spare time, I love to do anything outdoors! God's magnificent creation is always tugging at my heart....If I'm not backpacking or deer hunting, you will most likely find me up a high mountain creek with a fly rod in my hand, whitewater rafting our local rivers, or riding motorcycles high up in nearby mountain ranges. God has truly outdone Himself in the beautiful wilderness He has created, and I love so much to be out in it.
I can't wait for the adventures that await the 5th grade class at Cornerstone this year!
Miss Shanklin (:
